ABOUT US
Cascadia Climate Action Now grew from a small group of passionate neighbours who, with the tremendous support from Columbia Riverkeeper, Earth Justice, allied organizations, and activists throughout the region, prevented the world's largest fracked fossil-gas-to-methanol refinery and export terminal from being built in the small town of Kalama along the Columbia River in southwest Washington state. Our NoMethanol360 team (2014-2021) fought and won, preventing 184 million metric tons of CO2e from entering the atmosphere.
Our goal for this website is to provide resources for other community groups to be able to accomplish the same amazing success. We in Cascadia can (and do!) defeat multinational big oil & gas corporations, such as NWIW in Kalama who were backed by a foreign government, by being persistent and standing strong together with facts, science, passion, and action.
Cascadia CAN's Founder, Sally Keely, designed, developed, and coded this website. Sally is a four-decades long climate science activist, STEM e-educator, and mathematician. She was a member of the core team leading the No Methanol 360 campaign and now volunteers with forest advocacy, anti-biomass, and divestment groups in Washington state. She mini-blogs for this organization on Mastodon @CascadiaCAN@climatejustice.social.
